Practical guide

Metadata removal rebuilds the document

The tool copies pages into a new PDF and clears its creator and producer values. It does not copy the source document’s title, author, or other document information record, but saving the new file can generate technical properties such as creation and modification dates.

It does not erase personal information in page text or pictures. Copied annotations and resources can also carry information. Outlines, forms, and digital signatures may not survive rebuilding; check any features you need in the result.

Good use cases

  • ✓Creating a copy without the source title and author fields
  • ✓Removing the recorded creator and producer names
  • ✓Cleaning basic document properties on a publishing copy

Checks after download

  • •Reopen the result in the metadata viewer and compare each field
  • •Check page count, content, and annotations
  • •Inspect page content and attached resources separately for sensitive information

📝How to Use

  1. Drag and drop the PDF you want to clean into the upload zone or click to select.
  2. The tool rebuilds the document from its pages in browser memory, so recorded document properties are not carried over.
  3. Click the [Remove Metadata] button.
  4. Download the copy and use PDF Metadata Viewer to check its document properties. New technical dates may be present.

⚠️Caveats

  • The result is a rebuilt document. Document-level extras such as bookmarks, digital signatures, and some form field definitions may not survive the rebuild.
  • The new file carries only minimal technical values, so viewers will show an empty title and author.
  • Ordinary page graphics are copied without intentional re-compression. Check the output and retain the original.
  • This is not redaction or complete anonymization. Visible text, annotations, and information inside embedded images or page resources may remain.

❓Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q.Which properties are removed from the file?

The original title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and document dates are not copied. A new PDF is built from the pages, without the source document-level metadata. The library may add new creation and modification dates. This does not inspect or remove every identifying detail within page resources.

Q.Does removing metadata change how my pages look?

Ordinary text, images and vector graphics are copied without rasterizing them. Document-level features such as bookmarks, forms and signatures may change or be lost. Compare the resulting pages with the original.

Q.Will the cleaned PDF still be searchable and selectable?

Existing page text is copied and normally remains selectable and searchable. This tool does not add OCR to image-only pages. Check search and copying in the downloaded file.
